Removing the built-in entertainment center and fireplace
When the builder built our home, they placed a built-in entertainment
center and fireplace in our family room. We live in Florida and
therefore we do not need a fireplace. Before we moved in the home we had
purchased a large entertainment center for our family room and so we
did not need this one. The only logical thing to do was remove then
entire wall and gain about 2 feet in our family room.

I have the same issue with my new house, there is this impractical to use fireplace and entertainment center in the already small living room, can you please tell me what was involved in getting rid of yours effort wise and cost wise. Thank you.
